Just outside of the gate to Pilate's palace on the Via Delarrosa, Jesus falls for the first time. Abenadar pulls up his horse, his face showing signs of concern as the soldiers move quickly to fend off the crowd. Ordinarily the procession would have gone through the main part of the city to display the condemned to the entire populace. However, the Sabbath was the next day and Jesus had to be killed before it dawned.
